Have been hand quilting for 30+ years.  For the first time I tried Thread Heaven.  It was on sale and seemed like a good idea.  What's the consensus on this product?  Believe I've run into more snags, knots and snarls than ever before while using this.  Am I doing something wrong or is the product pure hype?  Thanks for your input.

I've never used it.  Have always used beeswax if I need to.  I have found that when using glazed quilting thread I really don't need anything if I watch to make sure I am not twisting my thread.
It's not a matter of patience......it's a matter of obsession.

Oh, I just love the stuff & use it all the time. It actually seems ta cover all o' the thread rather than clumpin' like the beeswax does for me. I do thread the needle w/the end that I just cut off o' the spool & tie the knot in the other end. Hand quiltin' thread is spun on the spool the other direction than thread that is intended for a machine. By threadin' it this way ya avoid more tangles that ya would ever realize.

Bev, This is what I've been doing.  Thought maybe it was just the spool of thread I was using but it doesn't seem to matter.  Wonder if there's such a thing as a bad batch?     Lisa

Oh, I wish it worked for ya as well as it does for me. I have no idea if it's a bad batch but it sounds like other's have had your same problem. It's a bit expensive ta try another batch though, isn't it.

I love it also.  I use it all my embroidery and cross stitch threads.  I also use it on silk thread when I applique.  I haven't used it on quilting thread, but only because I haven't hand quilted in a long time, and I use the hand quilting thread when I do.  It is already treated.

When I use it, I run the thread through the Thread Heaven, then pull it through my finger and thumb to spread it evenly.

Tricia Cribbs showed us she uses the Thread Heaven for her redwork. She pinches a piece off and flattens it in her fingers and place the needle in it closes it and pulls it thru. Says it covers better. So when I quilt with her, I use a small piece, pinch it in my fingers, and pull the thread thru. Works for redwork.
I don't use anything when I hand quilt my quilts though. I was always told to never cut the thread longer then 18" and it wouldn't get worn to the point of having issues. Works for me.

I love Thread Heaven. I usually end up taking the wad out of the little box to be able to get the thread really into the stuff. I sometimes find that I need to re-apply it while I'm piecing. I only use it on 100% cotton thread for piecing. The thread for hand quilting is fine all by itself.

I use it when I am putting on my binding by hand.  I hate to get knots when the binding is so important.

I've been hand quilting for about 10 years and I have never heard of thread heaven. As long as I tie my knot on end of my thread that comes off the spool first, I don't have many problems.

Just got back from a retreat in Branson, Mo. with Chigger and others.
This sweet lady bought me some beeswax and it had 5 cute containers too. That will do for me on threads not particularly for hand quilting.
I shared one with Dogwood quilter who was interested.
And SWChick brought me 6 spools of varigated King Tut thread fro hand quilting. Now those need nothing else.
Now to get back to sewing.

Hi I just read this thread because I was wondering about thread heaven. I've used beeswax an it does help, I've also tried a liquid called Sew Smooth, I think it is better than beeswax.  It's a silicone base so I'm careful not to use much, a little goes a long way.

I use Thread Heaven with good results.  Have never found the rule about which end of the thread to thread to be iny different.  In fact two experts from thread manufacturers said it doesn't make any difference which end you thread first.

I find the finger tip moistened that you get at the office supply store to be very effective in keeping my thread from tangling.  I like it better than bees wax or Thread Heaven.

Last night I went in to my desk and found a finger paste and uses it to hand stitch on a Star Strata I finished at retreat a few weeks back. It worked just fine.
I like that it has a larger surface to "slip and slide" the thread right over, finger to hold it smooth.
So another little something to share with my retreat friends who hand quilt. Going to Staples / Walmart to buy a few for gifties at the one in December.
Thanks, Holice.....
