My hand quilting quilt
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:09:21 AM »
This quilt is 80% done. I have a partial block to finish up. And then I can start on the 4 border strips around the quilt. I cant remember the name of my quilt. I thought I could find a posting of the quilt I'm working on with a name. No luck

That is so pretty! Looks like a variation on Tennessee Waltz to me. Any tips on handquilting? What type of frame, size needle, technique?

I hope I tell you correctly. 1st off when you start, you put your needle so its standing up straight. You will feel the tip on on 2nd finger( finger next to thumb)-left hand.  Push the needle away from you. When you get all 3 layer's after pushing the needle from you. Bring the needle to you. When you see the very tip of the needle, push the needle away from you. and back to you. More or less it's push away from you and bring the needle back to you, and so on. I have 2 hoops. A 14-16'' round hoop, and a oval hoop. That I'm going to try. I have 4 strip on the out side  of my quilt. So I'll see what the oval hoop will do. In the beginning I used a 8-10 size needle. Dont remember. Now I use a quilting between size 11-very small. It's a hair bigger than a 12 needle. I still have my very 1st self taught hand quilted quilt. And boy do I see a difference. Don

Thank-you Everyone and Don.  I'll practice on some table toppers. I should be able to do it. Just keep my needle straight when I go in,  I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so. I appreciate all the help you given me,

Question about a beginner and hand quilting. Which is more important, to practice using the correct stitch and how to make it or the size of the stitch?  I would think it would be to learn how to use the needle right and then work on trying a get smaller consistent stitches. How many stitches an inch?  I know I should improve but I would like to know. Thanks for your help.
