Thank you Yooper...I have not been very active anywhere since Christmas. I spent the whole week with my mom in Illinois...3 weeks after that visit she passed away. But she is with our Lord and I will see her again someday. My faith sustains me and quilting brings me peace! So it is time to get back to it!
I quilt, therefore I am!

Oh, GWs, I am so sorry, but aren't you so glad that you went and did spend those days with her.  I am sure it meant the world to her. Blessings to you.

I just joined here two days ago and already learned something.  Never heard of quilting with perle cotton.  Larger stitches, filling larger areas - hmmm, might just have to try it.  What do you use for needles?.  As much as I love hand quilting, find myself doing it less and less.  My hands and wrists are not happy campers for longer than an hour or so.

Your quilting is just gorgeous.  I think the title of Hand Quilting Goddess would be appropriate for you.
Find gratitude and humor in each day

Welcome to the QH.
I love hand quilting and all it entails.

Just feel free to stop by anytime or start your own thread if you need help on anything particular, someone will always help.

I have been off a week due to family business. Sorry.

WElcome back Miss gigglewings. Looking forward to more topics here since Admin was so nice to make it happen for us.
Kona is good but then again, to me any fabric that feels good in my hands is game for me. Never used any I didn't like while hand quilting. And I use varigated threads too.

We have a lot more hand quilters on the QH, if only they will find their way here to share their work as well. I also watch the picture section.
Thank you

Oh my...those are beautiful Debbie!  I love to hand quilt, but don't really have the time to complete things.  When I get all settled though, I'd love to do a wholecloth by hand.

With the awesomeness your machine work is, I wouldn't hand quilt either but alas I never learned to quilt on a  machine of any kind. Maybe one day.
Zipit is learning to use her long arm and I can go to Oklahoma and play.
We shall see.

Well, thank you Debbie, but there seems to be nothing more relaxing than hand work...applique and/or hand quilting.  I used to do cross stitch, needlepoint and embroidery.  I still like to embroider and all my hand work now seems to revolve around quilting!

You should go play with zip...I'd be interested to hear if you like it.

I cannot believe my last post on here was over a year ago! So much has happened I don't know where to start. Where I left off would be a good place. My summer road trip was wonderful and i ended up with 6 plates from the Row By Row and did get the top of my Summer Road Trip Quilt all done. It is in my UFO bin waiting to be quilted.
#2 on my life changing events: My friend and house-mate passed away at 47 years old of a heart attack on Feb 14th.  She left behind a 12 year old son who was like a grandson to me. She and I shared a house for 5 years, i use to be his babysitter until he no longer needed one. I kinda lost him too because he went to live with his dad, who loves him very much and has always been a part of his life. He will be fine, but is a 2 hour drive away from me. I also lost my home because I could not handle the rent and utilities by myself. My friend and I had split everything down the middle. So I had to find a new place to live...on a very limited budget! Needless to say I was sad, depresssed and stressed out over all of this.
#3: And don't you know a miracle happened the very next Monday. A single mom with 2 little boys read my profile on Care.com and called me. She is an Air Force RN, works at SA Military Medical Center and needs a live-in Nanny for her sons. One of them is a Down Symdrome child and is the happiest little boy I have ever known. He sings and smiles all of the time and makes you happy being near him! She interveiwed me, checked my references, did a background check and hired me on March 2nd. Last week we moved onto Randolph AFB officer's Quarters, I have my own room and bath and pleanty of space to set up my quilting machines and supplies! I am so blessed by His Grace! I am now back to quiting on a daily basis and have just started hand quilting my 30s Repro Dresden Plate which I did manage to completly hand-piece!
So, I am on here to learn all I can about hand quilting! I am hopeful that the more I do the better I will get. Right now my stiches are not consistently even on the top and some on puckered on the back...I do a lot of picking out stiches and doing them over! It will take me another year to finish this quilt! But I am a believer in miracles now, so it will happen!
I quilt, therefore I am!

Oh, so happy to hear that you didn't fall off the face of the earth.  I wondered often what had happened to you.  So, a big welcome back and I am sure that "Betty Boop" will be giving you lots of good tips on hand quilting. Sorry for all that happened to you, but you lived through it with grace and came up a winner.

Glad to hear things are looking up for you Missgigglewings!  As far as picking out stitches, unless they are really, really bad, and I doubt they are in anyone else's eye, don't pick them out, just keep going. Eventually they will all start to even out.  Even those of us who have done it for years, never have perfection, and it is not about perfection, just do the best you can! and enjoy doing it!

DD and I had just such fun, but a few days to go for the Row By Row when we were in PA and VA, which vexed my DD no end.  We visited so many quilt shops on our road trip and saw the patterns made up in quite a few shops.
