Doubled ended hand quilting needle
« on: January 30, 2016, 11:39:26 AM »
Ran across this while browsing the internet. I am going to order some and give it a try.
 It threads in the middle....
Saves lots of hand movements, push down, push up....

Has anyone else tried these already?

I've never seen these before but they look intriguing. In over 25 years of handquilting, I've never gotten the hang of the rocking method. I also tried the Aunt Becky but struggled with it.  Stab stitching is what works best for me, so I may need to give these a try even if there's a bit of a learning curve.  Thanks for bringing them to our attention.  Please let us know what you think of them after you've given them a shot.

I stab stitch too but once it gets enough stitches on the quilt top, I like to lap quilt to finish u the centers and such and can rock and roll the needle...Just never figured out how to do it when it is stretched tight on the frame...Must take a loose fit.
I have some coming now. Ordered them this morning...

Just loosen up on your frame. A little sag is a good thing.

I always thought I could not get the hang of the rocking stitch....took a quilting class from start to finish, and come to find out, I was doing it right, It just didn't look right to me when I looked at pictures in a book!

It didn't help me.  I still stab stitch because my Grannie taught me that way!  Hope it works for you.  It was a waste of money for me.

I rock my needle most of the time. There are always those thick seam allowances. I can't rock the needle through those so I stab stitch a couple of stitches there.
Those needles look intriguing though.

If anyone can conquer this method, it will be you Debbie.  Never heard of such a needle, but then, I have never gotten into hand-quilting either.  Hands are much too arthritic for that, but I sure do admire what you do .

I tried some like that, not sure of the brand.  The center eye metal was very thin and snapped after a little while.  I hope you have better luck

That needle looks to me like you need to be coordinated.  I can see that I would be stabbing myself big time.  LOL  I bought Aunt Beckies thingy a while back and going to give it a try, I've always been a rocker.

This is all true..what if we tried everything new on the market or even not so new that we run across.
The way I hand stitch works for me, why change it now?
I have never sewn with a thimble either and only prick myself once in a while.
I've been hand quilting over 30 years so it's all good.
But I'll try them. One never knows, it could be easy to me.

And yes, I use the eyeless needles to thread as well and they tend to wear out quicker that regular needles too, those delicate eyes, break....

My thought on the double headed needles was that it would work well but then you have the thread possibly bundling up while you go up and down in the same area...need to remember to pull it thru all the way about every 5 stitch....we shall see.

I love a new challenge..

Waiting for them to get here...I think I will like it...I'm willing to give it a try, that's for sure.

But then again, I don't do thimbles. Feels so awkward for me for this might too...
I know once I manage it, it might be a little fast.. down, back up, no thread turning or needle turning....
Not that I mind sitting all day and hand quilting....good therapy....
