I sure had a great time standing out side w/ my finger on the camera button. I took hundreds of Picts. These 3 in a row were the best.

I was in no danger as the storm was off in the distance but I do understand. If it were closer I don't think I would have been outside.

Pretty great shots!  I'm thinking lightening is really hard to catch at the right time.

Oh yeah it was. I just stood there for about 5 minutes & held the camera button down so as to take Picts continually. I deleted a ton of pitch black Picts that only had that one light in 'em.

Neat pictures but beware of lightning. I'm overly cautious.

It was in the distance. The sky was clear above me. That's the only reason I was outside. :)

For any members who live where there are no thunderstorms, this is why we worry:

Lightning can strike from blue sky and in the absence of rain. At least ten percent of lightning occurs when there is no rainfall and when blue sky is visible; this is especially prevalent with summer thunderstorms. Lightning can, and does, strike as far as ten (or more) miles away from the rain shaft. If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to pose an immediate threat. Be aware of local weather patterns and review local weather forecasts before an outdoor practice or event.

I sure know that, so I don't go out and I always worry about my animals.  There was an old man (97) who boarded his 3 precious horses at the same barn where I boarded.  One night a storm hit and his 3 horses were in the pasture.  They stood under a tree, it got hit by lightening and it killed them all.  It almost killed him to loose those horses.  I'll never forget that and it happened when I was 17.

SandPat on how sad for him. It is terribly hard to lose animals of family and friends as you get older. I feel so sorry for you to have experienced that at such a young age.

I too am always out, watching lightening storms, can't resist watching.  I have been fascinated most of my life by storms.  I can't get decent pictures at night though as I cannot figure out how to stop the darn flash on this camera.  My old camera was much more user friendly, wish I could get it fixed.
