It is beautiful....but I can't help but think that it means the winter and cold weather isn't far.  Although the autumn gives us that beautiful burst of color at the end of summer, Istill think
that Spring is my favorite time of year.

So Yooper, were there any leaves left on the trees in UP?  Not many in the mountains.  And cold.  too cold to sit on the porch and drink coffee while watching the river below.   :'( But any day in the mountains is better than a day at a desk.  :)

I'll be really surprised if there were, as most of ours are gone already and we are in the Thumb!  I'm thinking she should be back pretty soon, but she hasn't been on FB either.  I love Fall myself....I know someone said they love Spring, that has got to be the one I hate the most untill the darn frost comes out of the ground and the mud goes away!  I call it Mud Season! instead of Spring!

Friends, I am back, but barely.  Came home with a horrid cold that might be pneumonia, but have to wait until Mon. to find out what the X-ray says.  Meds are not doing much at all and I can't eat, doesn't want to go down, so I am mostly sleeping and coughing.
We thought the colors here were mediocre this year,.  Got the  Porkies to see Lake of the clouds and the peak was past, but still some beautiful color in the lower areas, especially pretty with the birch bark showing so white and black against the colors.  Then we got home here and I sat yesterday morning looking out my slider and was hit by the most glorious color, right in my own back yard.  The peak didn't hit until after we left.  Have pics, but also had 699 e-mails to get through as my storage was disasterized and so am I, so more later, friends.

Yes in deed, get some rest and pray it is not pneumonia.  I hear there is some pretty nasty stuff going around also. Just got our Flu shots last week.  Here is a picture of a little fall color with Mama and her baby!

Thanks  Kathy and yes there were lots of leaves left, specially in the lower counties.  Up at Porcupine Mtns., The colors were fading fast, but lower, they were beautiful but spotty.  We thought the best color was over here when we left.  Yesterday morning, I sat here at my table and looked out the sliders and it as a blazing glow is color.  The color here is fantastic this year and I am not feeling so good to go out looking for good shots and I think we are going to get a storm soon and that will be the end of the leaves. At least I got a good shot of the trees off the deck.

Neat pic, Sue, of Momma and child.  I see they are dining on apples.  Bet that makes the Boys growly.
I am a little perkier today, at least I didn't sleep all day....well, 10 mins later, I have just had my first coughing spasm so bad that I get to where I can't breathe, first one today.  So, I am going to go to bed and let sleep take me away.
Thank all of you for your concern.

We move the apples down by the game cam, because the Boy's are not suppose to be that far down the driveway...they are getting fat on apples, and it also looks like Willie's leg issue from March has re appeared. For about 6 weeks we could not figure out what leg he was limping on...thought it was one of his front, legs and so did the vet. Really sporadic. Got him on anti inflammatory's and glucosamine. Now it has become more evident that it is his back right, the one he hurt in March, and we were afraid he started to tear his ACL.  I am so scared we are heading for this surgery...the price is bad enough, but it is the recovery period that really has me scared. Waiting now to hear if Vet want us to come back before his month of pills is done and start x-rays, or wait and see. I see a doggy Ortho in our near future. I sure wish they could talk.  In the meantime, I hope you continue to mend!

Donna, I hope you're feeling a bit better?  How was your trip?  Seeing all the 'home' places.  You're so right about 'home'.  Growing up on Long Island when it was all farmland and scrub pine (and now its all highways and malls and developments) mine has completely completely changed, but I still hold that 'old home' in my heart as 'home'.

VP it was so different and it mostly looked like a war-torn bunch of towns, just the opposite of what happened to your area.  These towns mostly are suffering from by-pass highways that have left them to rot.  Two of the small towns I shopped in, one of which is where Roy grew up and is now buried, have no grocery stores left, no banks, no restaurants, no variety stores, they are a shambles.  I was depressed enough before going up for the funeral service but looking forward to seeing my old stomping grounds, only to come away even more depressed and with pneumonia.  The only thing up there that is the same is The Great Old Lady, Lake Superior, she still roars and growls sometimes.

I wish your trip could have been better.  Heartbreaking to see places that people built, lived lives in, took pride in, deteriorate and disappear that way :(
